Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 September 2026

African Facts & Fables (https://african-facts-fables.com) is the website of the YouTube channel African Facts And Fables. This policy explains what information the site handles, why, and the choices you have. In short: you don't need an account, we collect very little, and we never sell anything about you.

Information you give us

If you choose to sign up to hear about new stories, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. That is the only personal information we ask you for. We don't collect passwords, payment details, or government IDs.

We use your email only to tell you about new Fables and Facts. It is stored in our own Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) database in the United States, encrypted at rest and readable only by this site's server — never by other visitors. We don't sell, rent or share it, and we don't use it for advertising.

Information stored on your device

To remember where you left off, the site saves your viewing and reading progress, and whether you've seen or dismissed the signup prompt, in your own browser (local storage). This stays on your device; we never receive it. You can clear it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

We don't use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking of any kind.

Videos from YouTube

Fables play in a YouTube player embedded on this site. When you load or play a video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect information according to Google's Privacy Policy. Every video can also be watched directly on YouTube.

How YouTube API data is used

African Facts & Fables uses YouTube API Services to list the channel's own videos and to read their titles, descriptions, thumbnails and captions, which power the Fable pages and transcripts. This access covers only videos published by our own channel, authorised by the channel owner. We do not access, collect or store any visitor's Google or YouTube account data.

By using the site you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The channel owner can revoke the site's access at any time from Google Account permissions.

Analytics

We do not currently run any analytics or tracking tools on this site. If we add privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics in future, this section will say so before it goes live.

Hosting and security logs

The site is hosted on Google Firebase App Hosting. Like any web server, it briefly records technical request information — such as IP address, browser type and the page requested — to keep the site running, secure and protected from abuse (for example, limiting repeated signup attempts). These logs are kept by Google Cloud for a limited period and are not used to identify or profile you.

AI-assisted content

Facts are AI-assisted deep dives based on each video and are labelled “AI Deep Dive”. No visitor information is used to create them.

How long we keep information

  • Email signups: until you ask us to remove them, or until we stop sending updates.
  • Progress saved in your browser: until you clear it.
  • Server logs: for Google Cloud's standard retention period.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete any personal information we hold about you — in practice, a signup email address — and we'll do so promptly. Contact us through our YouTube channel. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.

Children

The site is for a general audience. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us through our YouTube channel and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the “Last updated” date above.
